Businesses that now hold licenses approved by the state’s Liquor Control Board, including both QFC stores and Albertsons, are now selling alcohol.

Walgreens and Rite Aid, on the northern end of the Island, also began selling on Friday.

Shawn Cooprider, who won the Mercer Island liquor store in the state auction last month, said Friday they plan to open the store soon, but are still working on a few things.

“We do plan on being open in the near future,” he said. “It’s going to be a concept store, and hopefully Mercer Island will become our flagship.”
