Mercer Island wins two, falls at invitational | Boys prep lacrosse

The Mercer Island boys lacrosse team held onto their No. 1 spot in their conference last week, beating Woodinville before hosting the Northwest Lacrosse Invitational.

The Mercer Island boys lacrosse team held onto their No. 1 spot in their conference last week, beating Woodinville before hosting the Northwest Lacrosse Invitational.

The Islanders beat Woodinville 19-3 on Wednesday, March 20. On Friday, March 22 the team host Lake Oswego of Oregon in the annual invitational, featuring teams from around the Western U.S.

Mercer Island beat Lake Oswego 14-9.

The Islanders were up 4-1 at the end of the first half, and exploded with a eight point fourth quarter to win the game.

Peter Mahony scored six goals in the match, while Grant Preisler added three goals and four ground balls. Justin Rorem had two goals, Evan Condon made one assist, as did Devlin Conway and Benji Rothenberg made eight saves.

The next day the team took on Lakeridge, also from Oregon. Lakeridge handed the Islanders it’s first loss of the season, 12-8.

Mercer Island will host Emerald Ridge-Puyallup on Wednesday, March 27 in an 8 p.m. game at the Islander Middle School field.
