MIYFS postpones annual breakfast to March 6

Due to the snowfall, the Mercer Island Youth and Family Services Foundation pushed the event.

The date for the Mercer Island Youth and Family Services (MIYFS) Foundation Annual Breakfast was changed from Feb. 13 to March 6, due to predicted inclement weather.

“Community coming together to support the programs and services offered by MIYFS is a vital cause, but community safety is an even higher priority,” an announcement from the Mercer Island city department said last week.

The “Shop Local” event that accompanies the breakfast also was postponed to March 6. The event includes 11 local businesses that will participate by donating 20 percent of their proceeds to support the programs and services of MIYFS.

“We have so many great business partners,” said Sari Weiss, development officer at MIYFS.

Participating businesses include All the Best Pet Care, Au Courant The Den, Auto Spa, Island Books, Island Treats, Mercer Island Athletic Club, Mioposto Pizzeria & Bar, Pete’s South Mercer Chevron, Studio 904, Terra Bella and Yogabliss.

At last year’s breakfast, more than 600 Islanders donated $215,000 during the breakfast alone, before local businesses made their contribution. This was a 16 percent increase over 2017’s “in the room” total.

MIYFS is a department of the city of Mercer Island, and receives funding from many sources, including the Mercer Island Thrift Shop, the city’s General Fund and the foundation.

Some 550 people already registered and registration remains available online at: https://bit.ly/2GkZkTo2019 Annual Breakfast – March 6.

Those unable to attend can still donate. People who can still attend the rescheduled date should not re-register.
