Passing Sound Transit measure will benefit Islanders | Letters to the Editor

ST3 will increase the amount of light rail infrastructure in the greater Seattle area, which would put less of a burden on traffic.

I am writing in advocacy of the Sound Transit 3 (ST3) measure on the November ballot. Passing ST3 would allow the Washington state Legislature to increase taxes so that more mass transit may be built extending beyond Seattle. I understand that in the recent City Council race, the topic of modification of transportation on the island was an important debate topic, with concerns on traffic and Islander priority, specifically the future closure of the express lanes.

To this, the ST3 will increase the amount of light rail infrastructure in the greater Seattle area, which would put less of a burden on traffic because they have their own right-of-way and can carry more during rush hour than cars during rush hour. This also gives more Islanders the opportunity to use the public transportation because of the light rail’s extended range.
