Arrests

A 25-year-old man was arrested for outstanding warrants in the 3600 block of West Mercer Way while Island officers were investigating a fare dispute complaint by his cab driver around 2 a.m. on Aug. 22.

A 57-year-old transient attempting to check into Tent City was arrested for an outstanding warrant regarding a DUI around 5 p.m. on Aug. 21.

A lady with the name Shady was picked up from the regional justice center in Kent and transported the Issaquah jail around 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 19 for an outstanding theft warrant from a past crime she is suspected of committing on Mercer Island.

A 51-year-old man living in Tent City with an outstanding warrant from the Department of Corrections was arrested while in his tent around 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 19.

A woman living in Tent City with an outstanding Seattle warrant was arrested by police around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 18.

Thefts

A complete tank of gas was siphoned from a minivan parked in the North Mercer Park and Ride the morning of Aug. 21. According to the police report, an Islander filled up the tank just before leaving it at the garage, but the gauge showed the tank was empty when his son retrieved the vehicle an hour later.

An Island resident suspects that movers stole his laptop computer from his home in the 9700 block of S.E. 43rd Street on Aug. 20.

A purse with cash, identification, credit cards and a check book was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked at the Mercer Island Condos in the 2500 block of 81st Avenue S.E. between 10:45 and 11:10 p.m. on Aug. 2.

Vandalism

Several political signs were found broken in the middle of 78th Avenue between S.E. 32nd and 40th Streets around 9 p.m. on Aug. 19.

The day before, another Islander also reported additional destroyed political signs that were cut or torn apart and found strewn about Island Crest Way between S.E. 40th and 72nd Streets on Aug. 18.

Auto accidents

A 35-year-old Sultan woman crashed her car into a ditch while driving down a private driveway in the 5600 block of East Mercer Way. The woman told officers that she thought something went wrong with the transmission or brakes prior to loosing control of the car around 2 p.m. on Aug. 19.

A T-bone collision occurred in the intersection of S.E. 36th Street and North Mercer Way around 7 a.m. on Aug. 19. According to the police report, a 22-year-old Islander failed to see an oncoming car while taking a left turn onto 36th when she was clipped in the rear by another car, spinning her vehicle into the curb and a road sign. The young Islander was cited for failure to yield.

An 81-year-old woman scraped her knee after she was hit by a car backing out of its garage in the 8200 block of S.E. 60th Street around 1:10 p.m. on July 31. According to the police report, the area does not have a sidewalk or paths for pedestrian use.

A BMW parked in the lower level of the North Mercer Park and Ride on Aug. 3 was damaged by an unknown driver and police were going to seek the video surveillance tapes from the garage.

A collision occurred in the westbound I-90 on ramp on Island Crest Way around noon on Aug. 3.
