State Patrol motorhome makes DUI traffic stop

A Washington State Patrol lieutenant who was driving a motorhome used as a mobile DUI processing center pulled over a driver for suspicion of DUI, KIRO TV reported last week.

Police said the lieutenant was driving the 36-foot motorhome back to the Bellevue State Patrol office about 3 a.m. on Aug. 9.

As he exited from eastbound Interstate 90 to 156th Street, he saw a 2001 Honda Accord driving erratically.

With no other patrol units in the area, the lieutenant made a traffic stop with the motorhome, which is equipped with emergency lights.

The driver, a 28-year-old man, was arrested for suspicion of  DUI and transported to Overlake Hospital for a blood draw.

Police said the man had several types of prescription pills in his possession. Toxicology results are pending.

He was booked into the King County Jail.

DUI: A 19-year-old Seattle man was stopped for equipment violations and during the stop admitted to have recently smoked marijuana. The driver was arrested and provided a voluntary blood sample.

FRAUD: A 38-year-old Island man reported his Social Security Number had been stolen to file a fraudulent unemployment claim.

ASSIST: Mercer Island police recovered a Seattle woman’s stolen vehicle while conducting an area search in the 5000 block of 84th Ave. S.E. The 2010 Volkswagen Jetta was recovered with latent fingerprints, a flashlight and matchbook believed to belong to the suspect.

CAR THEFT: A 2011 Toyota Sienna Minivan was stolen from the 5000 block of 84th Ave. S.E. The van was unlocked and the keys were in the cup holder.

WARRANT ARREST: Mercer Island Police contacted a 23-year old man on a misdemeanor warrant in the parking lot of the South-end shopping center. He was transported to King County Jail.
