Resident’s wallet stolen from unlocked vehicle | Mercer Island police blotter

April 25

Fraud: A resident in the 8400 block of Southeast 72nd Street paid a large sum of money in a common extortion scheme in which an online fraudster threatens to share sensitive or embarrassing information or images with the victim’s family or employer unless the victim sends money, according to the police department.

April 21

Theft: A resident in the 2600 block of 77th Avenue Southeast discovered that her license plates had been stolen off of her vehicle and had been replaced with other license plates, which were returned stolen out of Seattle. According to the police department, this is a common scheme in which thieves quietly swap out plates so they can drive vehicles when committing crimes and avoid/delay detection if the license plate on the vehicle they are driving is not yet reported stolen.

Vehicle prowl: A prowl took place in the 4600 block of Forest Avenue Southeast.

April 19

Vehicle prowls: A pair of prowls occurred in the 7600 block of Southeast 27th Street and on the Luther Burbank Park access road.

April 17

Malicious mischief: Graffiti was found at a city park in the 3000 block of 77th Avenue Southeast.

Vehicle prowl: A resident in the 2400 block of 71st Avenue Southeast had her wallet stolen from her unlocked vehicle, and credit cards were used to make fraudulent transactions.

Malicious mischief: A resident in the 2400 block of 72nd Avenue Southeast found her yard signs and flags ripped up and placed face down in her yard.
