School district teams involved in plethora of summer projects

Mercer Island School District (MISD) Superintendent Fred Rundle penned a letter to the community at the end of July to inform residents about a plethora of projects that have been in the works over the summer.

The district’s operations and maintenance teams are rolling through the following projects, which are bolstered by the community-supported capital and technology levy:

* New floors have been placed in the Mercer Island High School (MIHS) weight room and wrestling room.

* New carpet is being installed in the MIHS Performing Arts Center (PAC), the walls and entry vestibule have been painted and a new show curtain and new scrim (heavy duty cloth backdrop) have also been installed in the PAC.

* Teams have commenced work on phase one of construction on the new West Mercer Elementary School big toy, and phase two will start in early September. Workers are replacing fuel pumps and repaving the transportation lot along with performing some repaving at Lakeridge Elementary School and paving the MIHS walkway from the student parking lot to the school.

The first day of school for grades 1-12 will be Aug. 30; the first day of instruction for kindergartners will be Sept. 5.

“I am looking forward to my second year as superintendent of MISD. We have so many accomplishments to build off of and reasons to be hopeful for an even better 2023-2024,” Rundle said.
