Stolen liquor worth $440 recovered | Mercer Island Police Blotter

An Albertsons employee witnessed a 35-year-old customer stealing liquor at 10:30 p.m. The suspect’s vehicle, a Ford pickup truck, was located and the suspect was identified.

An Albertsons employee witnessed a 35-year-old customer stealing liquor at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, in the 2700 block of 77th Avenue S.E. The suspect’s vehicle, a Ford pickup truck, was located and the witness identified the suspect, who was then arrested at 10:55 p.m. The stolen liquor was inside the pickup truck, along with some toiletries. The liquor, worth $440, was restocked in the store.

Jan. 14

Arrest: Police took a 51-year-old man into custody at 12:20 p.m. and booked him into the Issaquah Jail on a suspended license warrant.

Jan. 17

Arrest: Police booked a 33-year-old Seattle man into the Issaquah Jail on a $1,500 suspended license warrant after picking him up at the Snohomish County Jail.

iPod theft: An iPod Touch was stolen out of the boys locker room at Mercer Island High School sometime between 3:30 and 5 p.m. in the 9100 block of S.E. 42nd Street. The iPod had been left in an unlocked area.

Jewelry theft: $18,000 worth of jewelry went missing from a 63-year-old woman’s home sometime after Jan. 1 in the 9800 block of S.E. 40th Street. The victim had not seen the jewelry since New Year’s Day, but did not realize it was missing until Jan. 17. The victim’s son and daughter-in-law reside in her home, but there is no suspect information. Nothing in her room or house was disturbed, leaving no indication of when the thefts occurred. Missing jewelry included a platinum and diamond ring, silver bracelets, and a gold ring with a ruby, diamonds and emeralds.

Jan. 18

Money theft: A check was stolen out of the Christmas donation box at the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church, in the 3600 block of 84th Avenue S.E., sometime after Dec. 5. The “pay to the order of” line had been left blank in the donation box, and someone filled in a name and cashed the check. The victim, a 43-year-old woman, had intended the $40 check to be paid to the church. There is no suspect information.

Accident: A Jeep collided into two utility boxes at 6:13 p.m. in the 7200 block of 92nd Avenue S.E., south of Pioneer Park. The 19-year-old driver called dispatch and reported damaging the boxes. He said his parking brake failed while he was delivering pizza to a residence and the Jeep rolled down the hill into the boxes, which belonged to Comcast and Century Link.

Jan. 19

Theft: Two teenage boys stole a pack of Junior Mints and two cartons of cigarettes from Rite Aid, in the 8400 block of S.E. 68th Street, at 8:55 a.m. One boy jumped over the counter when the clerk was not present and grabbed the items. The pair ran out of the front door. A security camera recorded the incident, and partial shoe prints on the counter were photographed. The total loss was $161.

Jan. 20

Vandalism: A 40-foot fiberglass flagpole was snapped in half sometime overnight in a neighborhood east of Covenant Shores in the 4100 block of 94th Avenue S.E. The flag had been removed and thrown onto the street. A police officer came across the scene while checking the neighborhood for vandalism, and found an iPhone at the scene. A 17-year-old male North end resident has been identified as the suspect.

In the same block, the previous night, someone entered a Toyota Camry through an unlocked door and poured hand sanitizer onto the driver’s seat, left an open umbrella in the backseat and stole $10 in coins out of the center console. A rear window wiper worth $150 was broken off of another vehicle, a Honda CR-V, parked on the street that night.

Car prowl: Two vehicles, a Toyota Camry and Mini Cooper, were prowled overnight in the 9500 block of S.E. 40th Street. An iPod was stolen out of the Toyota’s glove compartment. Neither vehicle was damaged, but both were rummaged through.

Bike found: A 51-year-old man found a bike without any owner identification near the high school in the 8700 block of S.E. 42nd Street.

Theft: A Dell laptop computer went missing after an unknown person entered the closed lobby area of a building in the 2400 block of 76th Avenue S.E. at 9:50 p.m. A staff member went to check on the subject, who entered another room and was acting suspicious. The subject then quickly exited the building through a back door, and the employee observed that a computer was missing out of the same room.

Jan. 21

DUI: A driver who admitted drinking three Long Island iced teas was stopped for several traffic violations at 1:35 a.m. in the 6000 block of westbound I-90. The driver, 39, admitted his license was suspended and he had been drinking. He failed voluntary standard sobriety tests and was arrested at 1:50 a.m.

Jan. 22

Arrest: Police booked a 21-year-old man into the SCORE Jail at 6:25 p.m. on a $1,500 warrant for driving with a suspended license.
