Islander girls swimmers and divers shine at meets

Mercer Island High School’s girls swim and dive team notched a pair of major victories recently over Bellevue and defending 3A state champion Bainbridge. The Islanders beat Bellevue, 110.5-75.5, and Bainbridge, 125-61.

Against Bellevue, Clare Watson, Piper Enge, Isabel Peng and Gracyn Kehoe set a school record in the 200-yard medley relay (1:46.37).

In the Bainbridge meet, Enge, Kehoe, Alexa McDevitt and Watson set a school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:29.04), which is an All-American consideration time. With her state-qualifying time in the 50-yard freestyle (23.67), Watson achieved ironwoman status with state cuts in all eight individual events.

On the diving front, Brooke Andrews and Charlotte Friedman qualified for state at a recent meet at Juanita High. Andrews re-broke her school record during her performance with 465.40 points.
