MI girls third, boys fourth at KingCo track and field championships

The Mercer Island girls track and field team boasted winners in six events while the boys won three titles of their own at the KingCo championships May 13 and 15 at Juanita High School.

The Mercer Island girls track and field team boasted winners in six events while the boys won three titles of their own at the KingCo championships May 13 and 15 at Juanita High School.

The Islander girls finished third overall with a team score of 83, while the boys placed fourth with a score of 45. Lake Washington won the girls meet with an overall mark of 93. Bellevue won the boys meet, scoring 126.

Victoria Gersch won titles in the 100 meters (12.7 seconds) and 200 meter races (25.88). Kayla Lee won the 400 (58.33), while teammate Piper Casey placed third.

Cece Rosenman won the 3200 (11:21.64) and placed fourth in the 1600. Kendra Watson won the 300 meter hurdles (48.21) and was runner-up in the 100 hurdles.

Mercer Island won the 200 relay, with Lee, Gersch, Casey and Watson finishing in 1:44.65. The Islanders placed second in the 400 relay, with Lee, Casey, Kendall Riley and Alexa Bauman finishing in 4:07.84

Casey was runner-up in the long jump at 16-1.75, and Watson was third in the triple jump at 31-4.25.

For the boys, Nathan Gallatin won the 800 meters (1:54.7), while teammates Ben Stoops and Patrick Hanson finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Emerson Schulz placed fourth in the 400, and teammate Luke Bohlinger placed fifth.

The Islanders won the 400 relay, with Gallatin, Schulz, Bohlinger and Jonathan Perr finishing in 3:26.31.

In the field, David Emanuels edged teammate Dylan Majewski to win the shot put event with a mark of 43-3. Kyle Hsu was runner-up in discus, and Greyson Weltyk placed fourth in the high jump and sixth in the triple jump.

Qualifiers will move on to the 3A Sea-King district track meet, which will take place May 20-22 at Southwest Athletic Complex in West Seattle.
