The Mercer Island High School girls soccer team lost to Columbia River, out of Vancouver, Wash. in the 3A girls soccer state championship game this afternoon. The game ended regulation time tied 1-1, and remained the same through two 5 minute overtime periods before heading into a shoot-out. The Islanders lost the shoot-out 3-2.
This was the first time since 2003 the Islanders played in the state final match, where the team also took second place.
Head coach Adam Gervis said following it game, it was a special team and a special season and that they worked hard, but couldn’t quiet get where they needed to be.
