Football dinner auction June 6

The Mercer Island Football Booster Club will host a dinner with dancing and live and silent auctions on Saturday, June 6, at the Mercerwood Shore Club to raise money for the Mercer Island High School football program. Supporters of football are welcome to attend. Tickets are available at www.mercerislandfootball.org.

Island student earns baseball honors

Island student Matt Boyd, a senior at Eastside Catholic School, was selected to play at the 2009 Tournament of Stars (TOS) in June. Boyd, a pitcher for the Eastside Catholic baseball team, was picked along with 143 other top high school players from across the United States for the game. Boyd is also eligible to be chosen for the U.S. 18 and under national team which will compete in Venezuela in October. The 18U National Team has Major League alumni such as Mike Mussina and Alex Rodriguez, as well as several No. 1 Major League Baseball draft picks from recent years.

Three Islander baseball athletes named to KingCo All-League

Three members of the Mercer Island High School baseball team were given KingCo 3A/2A All-League honors.

David Courtney, a senior, was picked for the first team representing first base. Junior Willy Reel, shortstop, and catcher AJ Simpson, a senior, were both chosen for the second team. Cam Wilson, a senior, and sophomore Jordan Richardz were given honorable mentions.
