Longtime Mercer Island resident, artist Maria Frank Abrams dies

Islander Maria ‘Marika’ Frank Abrams, an artist of the renowned ‘Northwest School’ style of art and whose inspiration for her abstract, hauntingly beautiful images was often debated, died peacefully on March 29 at her Mercer Island home. She was 88.

The funeral will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, at Bikkur Cholim Cemetery, 1340 N. 115th St., Seattle.

Shiva will be held at the Abrams’ home, 4230 West Mercer Way, Mercer Island, immediately following the burial and ending on the morning of the seventh day after burial. Nichum Aveilim (home visit to mourners) is all day and all evening during shiva.
