Mercer Island lawyers help build virtual law firm

During the past year, a group of five lawyers, including two from Mercer Island, have established what is believed to be the first truly virtual law firm in Washington. The firm, Advocates Law Group PLLC, has no central office and most of the members practice from their home offices. Support staff is provided by contract workers and a contractor bookkeeper does the billing and keeps the firm’s financial books and records.

According to George Tamblyn, the firm’s managing member, the new business platform “reduces the overhead of the firm between 80 and 90 percent from the traditional ‘bricks and mortar’ type of law firm with expensive office space and salaried support staff.”

“Under this business model, we can provide experienced lawyers at approximately half the cost of our competition,” he said.

The firm offers litigation services, business and real estate expertise, and will serve as part-time house counsel for mid-sized and small businesses. The firm is exclusively made up of experienced lawyers with an average of 26 years of experience per person. The firm plans to add additional virtual attorneys as their practice grows.
