Not too late to rescind parks petition signature | Letter

Last month while I attended the Island Park Elementary School PTA fundraiser, I was surprised to see a few Protect our Parks supporters asking parents if they “wanted to save our parks” and sign their initiative. Fortunately, I understood how this misguided proposal would stop the Mercer Island Center for the Arts and drive Youth Theatre Northwest off the Island, and I declined to sign.
Unfortunately, many other parents were misled by the petitioners and signed the petition, with some even being deceptively told the petition would not stop MICA or hurt the theater.
The good news is if you regret signing the parks petition, it’s not too late. City law allows you to rescind your signature. Just go to www.supportmiparksandarts.com and follow the simple instructions on how to unsign. It’s quick and easy.
Be sure to also tell your friends and neighbors to not be fooled and decline to sign, too. It seems the parks petitioners will tell them anything to get their signature.
