Mercer Island firefighters to fundraise to ‘fill the boot’

Over 60 years ago, the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) began raising funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) nationwide. To date, that has generated $558 million for research, health care and specialized summer camps.
Since 2007, local firefighters have participated in the “Fill-the-Boot” campaign, spending a day collecting donations on the street, organized by their Union chapter, Local 1762.
Tomorrow, Sept. 15, you’ll probably see Mercer Island firefighters out around town raising funds. They’ll be keeping safety in mind, and shift coverage will be unaffected.
The firefighters will be located at Island Crest Way and Southeast 40th Street from 7 a.m. to noon, holding their boots on the curbside and in the street.
Roberto’s Pizza made a donation to the firefighters.
