The St. Monica cross country team delivered its strongest performance in Catholic Youth Championship history, winning four medals on Oct. 5.

Fourth-grader Kalyna Tsai captured her first-ever victory in the 4th-grade girls’ 1.1-mile race with a time of 8:08.44. She later said, “That was quite exciting.”

Defending her championship title from last year, Lily Augustine moved up to the 5th-grade division and finished second, clocking 7:13.87 — just 0.07 seconds shy of first place, but an impressive 22 seconds faster than her 2024 winning time.

In the 6th-grade boys’ 1.25-mile race, Callum Quinn and Max Kuhn crossed the line a few seconds apart, taking third and fourth with times of 8:05.25 and 8:08.91, showcasing teamwork as they entered the finishing chute together.

For the 6th-grade girls, Kathryn Vallis ran with poise to earn eighth place in 9:12.53.

Reflecting on the meet’s competitive field, Callum said, “I look forward to competing against them in the future.”
