Leaders from the Jewish Day School and Congregation Herzl-Ner Tamid of Mercer Island joined community members, partner organizations and local officials on April 28 to mark the groundbreaking of Barnabie Point, a new shared Jewish campus that will bring together a day school, synagogue life and shared workspace for Jewish organizations in one location. The new three-story building will sit on Herzl-Ner Tamid synagogue’s land at 3700 E. Mercer Way. The event brought together various leaders of the Jewish community and city of Mercer Island representatives, including speakers such as Mayor David Rosenbaum (also pictured at right with MI Deputy Mayor Daniel Becker and city councilmember Julie Hsieh). Project leaders said the campus has been designed with the Mercer Island setting in mind, including planning around the physical setting to maintain security, traffic flow and how the site functions day to day within the surrounding neighborhood. “We have been very focused on ensuring the new building sets into the environment and working with the city to meet its requirements,” said David Shujman, board president of Congregation Herzl-Ner Tamid. They hope to have the building ready for use by the summer of 2027, according to a previous Reporter article. Photos courtesy of Barnabie Point Project
