Once again, the Mercer Island community was unbelievable in its support of the MIHS marching band, this time for the students’ trip to London to participate in the New Year’s Day Parade on Jan. 1.
The news of Finders gift shop closing brought tears to my eyes.
When my young sons were attending birthday parties, Keepers (the part of the store that sold gifts for infants and children) was the place to find the perfect gift. The headlamp for bedtime reading was our all-time favorite.

This is great news! I am a student who recently left for college, and I was disappointed that the Safeway moved out because it would be nice to have another grocery store to frequent. It is nice to know that such a large lot is finally getting developed; it seems like such a waste that it has been left empty. I have high hopes that this new project will continue to expand the commerce in downtown.
Your paper has gone from bad to awful to worthless. Please cancel my subscription and refund the remaining balance. Every time I try to give this paper a chance, it disappoints. Have lived on Mercer Island for 45 years and have quit this paper four times in the past. This will be the last.
We saw Randy Gordon’s attack ad against Steve Litzow’s claim to be bipartisan. A clip from a Mercer Island Council meeting discussion on the “road diet” was shown, followed by an ambulance and the insinuation that Steve Litzow had caused harm to Mercer Island children.
The Mercer Island Community Fund is currently accepting applications for grants with a deadline of Jan. 31, 2011. It considers applications from organizations for funding that benefit the Mercer Island community in the following categories: (a) Arts and Culture, (b) Environment and Conservation, (c) Community Development, (d) Recreation, (e) Social Service and (f) Health, within the meaning and limitations of Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.
The Mercer Island Friends of the Library just held another successful book sale thanks to your donations of quality books and media. The money raised from our fall sale as well as ongoing book sales in the library fund, in whole or in part, over 75 percent of the programs at the Mercer Island Library, so we appreciate your year-round donations and your purchases of books at our sales.
I tutor with ‘Invest in Youth,’ a Mercer Island program that works in several under-performing Seattle schools. This year my husband and I brought two (fifth and sixth grade) students from the program, neither of whom had ever been trick or treating, to the Lakes. They had the time of their lives.
This is tragic news. Never have I found such an all-inclusive place as this pool. This will be a great loss to the community and to us who travel a distance to participate at the pool. I also understand the times and realize the cutbacks and pinches are also all inclusive. I hope there can be a positive and successful solution to this.
Dear Islanders, I am writing to ask you to support Randy Gordon in his run for office. He will answer your calls, respond to concerns and is informed about issues. Please support a candidate who supports safety in our community. You will not be disappointed!
1. Having the common sense to require 3 speed bumps in the current re-paving of Avalon Way; and
2. The impressively beautiful new landscaping on the east side of Island Crest Way by the U. S. mailbox.
Well done!
When one religious group is attacked, all are attacked. The Mercer Island Clergy Association were shocked and horrified to hear of the vandalism to North West Yeshiva High School, St. Monica School and a public elementary school.
