Oct. 7

Graffiti: At 9:30 a.m., a Mercer Island woman, 31, reported graffiti on her building, a dentist office, in the 3200 block of 78th Avenue S.E. The graffiti had been found in late August but had been reported only to the property manager, not to police.

Found: A Kirkland resident, 40, reported at 1:59 p.m. finding a bicycle in the bushes at his business. It had been there for several days. The bike was placed into found property at the MIPD. According to a police check, it had not been stolen.

Oct. 8

Fender-bender: A vehicle driven by a Mercer Island woman backed into a passing car driven by another Island resident at 4:28 p.m. in the lot between the South end Rite Aid and QFC. The woman did not see the other car, which honked, and each driver’s statement to police matched the resulting damages.

Runaway: The 15-year-old son of a Mercer Island man was reported missing at 4:03 p.m. He had been missing for 24 hours. The son had run away before and was last seen at a drug treatment center in Seattle.

Theft: A Mercer Island man, 51, reported at 9:36 a.m. that two of his vehicles were prowled during the night of Oct. 7, and $50 in cash was stolen from them. The vehicles had been parked in the driveway, and there was no evidence of forced entry, though the owner thought they had been locked.

Oct. 9

Graffiti: A Bellevue man, 42, reported hate graffiti in a portable latrine at the Park on the Lid parking lot. The graffiti targeted white people and Western culture and mentioned “atrocities against peoples of Iraq, Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan.” It likely occurred sometime on Oct. 9 and was reported at 6:33 p.m.

Car prowl: A Mercer Island man, 39, reported at 10:07 a.m. that his vehicle, an Acura, had been prowled during the night of Oct. 7 in the 5600 block of 90th Avenue S.E. His iPod was stolen from the vehicle, which had been left unlocked.

Oct. 10

Hit and run: A vehicle struck the rear bumper of a parked car in the drive-thru Starbucks lot while attempting a U-turn at 9:30 a.m. The parked car was occupied, and the driver, a Mercer Island man, was able to take down the license plate number of the vehicle before it drove away.

Arrest: A Kirkland woman, 22, was taken into custody at 9:35 p.m. in the 9000 block of W. Shorewood Drive after violating a protection order. The suspect had trespassed at a Mercer Island woman’s residence and was booked into the Issaquah Jail.

Arrest: A Mercer Island woman, 37, was arrested during a traffic stop at 4:48 p.m. in the 2800 block of 78th Avenue S.E. after an officer’s DOL check revealed that she, as the registered owner, was driving with a suspended license and had two FTAs on record. The vehicle remained at the location of the arrest after a waiver of impound was signed. After being processed at the MIPD, the driver was released to her husband.

Arrest: A Seattle man, 28, was arrested by a Seattle Police Department officer and turned over to the MIPD at Rainier Street and Charles Street. He had a $1,000 warrant for driving with a suspended license and alcohol on breath. He was intoxicated with a PBT of .243 when he was booked into the Issaquah Jail.

Oct. 11

Arrest: A Seattle man, 22, was arrested at 6:24 p.m. in the 7600 block of N. Mercer Way after an officer ran a state Department of Licensing check and found that the vehicle’s registered owner was driving with a suspended license and had two FTAs on record. The driver was processed at the MIPD and booked into the Issaquah Jail. His vehicle was given over to his brother.

Abandoned car: A Dodge Caravan was abandoned in the 9700 block of S.E. 35th Place and was found by a police officer on Oct. 7. The vehicle, which was registered to a Lynnwood woman, was towed on Oct. 11 after the officer had placed a 72-hour notice on the vehicle and marked a tire.

Fraud: An unknown suspect attempted to pass a fraudulent check in July with an 88-year-old Mercer Island woman’s bank account number. The bank did not cash the check, and the incident was reported at 11:32 a.m. for documentation.

Malicious mischief: A Mercer Island woman, 58, reported at 10:24 a.m. that her son’s vehicle had been damaged along its driver side in the 7800 block of S.E. 71st Street. The damage likely resulted from an argument between her son and the suspect, both of Mercer Island.

Car prowl: A 43-year-old Mercer Island woman’s Toyota van was broken into between 6 and 7:30 p.m. while parked at the Boys and Girls Club in the 4100 block of 86th Avenue S.E. An unknown suspect broke through the front passenger window and stole the woman’s purse.

Fraud: A Mercer Island man, 62, reported at 4:53 p.m. that his ATM information had been stolen, which resulted in money being withdrawn for purchases made in Bellevue last month. The man had used his card for ATM withdrawals only at the two Wells Fargo branches on Mercer Island.

Oct. 12

Theft: A Mercer Island woman, 42, reported at 2:08 p.m. that prescription medications were stolen from her South-end residence between Oct. 7 and Oct. 11. She suspected that her pet-sitter was responsible for the theft.

Cash: A Mercer Island Library employee, 45, reported at 9:53 a.m. that another employee had discovered $195 in cash in a returned library book on Oct. 10. The cash was turned over to the MIPD and placed into found property.

Oct. 13

Theft: A Mercer Island man, 40, reported at 4:38 p.m. that his utility trailer was stolen from a Mercer Island parking lot between 2 p.m., Oct. 12, and 3 p.m., Oct. 13. The trailer, which contained tools, had been locked and was removed without permission.

Oct. 14

Abandoned vehicle: A MIPD officer found an abandoned Honda sedan in the 8200 block of S.E. 26th Street. The officer first observed the car at 12:45 p.m., Oct. 11, and after doing a license plate check, found that its registered owner was a Renton resident. The officer marked the tire and put a 72-hour notice on the car, then returned on Oct. 14 at 12:50 p.m. to find that the vehicle remained. The vehicle was towed from the site.

DUI arrest: A 26-year-old Arlington man was arrested at 10:29 p.m. in the 2400 block of 77th Avenue S.E. for a DUI. He and a passenger, a 21-year-old Renton woman, had been in an accident, and an officer found his vehicle on top of a cement barrier. The car had exited the freeway at about 65 mph, according to the driver, who admitted that he had been drinking. He failed voluntary SFSTs and his PBT was 0.085. The vehicle was towed and the driver was processed at the MIPD before being “released to a sober friend.”

Arrest: A 22-year-old Kirkland woman was arrested at 11:36 p.m. in the 9000 block of W. Shorewood Drive for violating a no-contact order, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest. The woman had slipped notes under the victim’s door on Mercer Island. She was booked into the Issaquah Jail.
