A house was burglarized in the 2900 block of 72nd Avenue S.E. between 6:20 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, while the resident was away at work. The burglar entered the house through a rear bedroom window that was not locked, and left through the front door, leaving it unlocked. A revolver, camera, gold watch and carton of cigarettes were stolen.

May 11

Accident: A vehicle backed out of a parking stall and hit a passing vehicle in the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street at 9:54 a.m. The driver did not see the approaching vehicle.

Arrest: Police arrested a Bellevue man, 30, at 4:09 p.m. in the South end QFC parking lot. The suspect had a traffic warrant and a suspended license, and he was booked into the Issaquah Jail with bail set at $1,000.

Hit and run: A vehicle backed into a parked vehicle in the McDonalds lot at 9:05 p.m. The vehicle fled the scene after swerving around two witnesses who identified the driver, 17, and tried to stop him. Both vehicles were damaged. The driver admitted being present at the scene when he was contacted later by police.

May 12

Pedestrian hit: A vehicle hit an 11-year-old girl in the crosswalk in the intersection of S.E. 40th Street and 86th Avenue S.E. The driver saw the girl coming and turned behind her, but struck the girl’s foot. The girl fell and struck her hip, but she declined aid.

Assault: A Mercer Island man who was pumping gas in the afternoon got into an argument with a 15-year-old boy who was using profanity in the 2900 block of 78th Avenue S.E. The argument became physical, and according to witnesses, the teen was assaulted by the adult.

May 13

Burglary: A van was stolen from a residence in the 4400 block of East Mercer Way while the resident was away during the afternoon. The resident had intended to give the van away and have it towed. An air compressor and chainsaw were also stolen.

Fraud: Two retail credit cards were opened in a 46-year-old woman’s name sometime after April 28. $5,500 was fraudulently charged to the accounts.

Liquor violation: Liquor was confiscated from five teenagers, two of whom were intoxicated, during a birthday party held at the Community Center at Mercer View in the evening. The minors were released to their parents after the parents were contacted.

May 14

Accident: A motorcyclist went off the road after losing control at 1:45 p.m. in the 5200 block of West Mercer Way. His motorcycle tipped onto its side and slid down a hill, according to the police report. The man, 48, sustained abrasions and leg pain, and his motorcycle was towed.

May 15

Car prowl: An iPod and after-market radio were stolen out of a Mercury Sable in the 4700 block of Fernridge Lane sometime after May 8.

May 17

Burglary: Someone stole a 12-pack of beer and a bottle of chardonnay from a garage refrigerator in the 8500 block of S.E. 80th Street around 6:40 p.m., while the garage door was open and the resident was at home.

Accident: A cyclist tumbled into the side of a vehicle after flipping over his handlebars and landing on asphalt at 12:45 p.m. in the 5300 block of S.E. 53rd Place. The vehicle made a U-turn in front of the cyclist, 53, who braked hard in an attempt to avoid a collision. He sustained an abrasion on his hand and hip.

Arrest: Police stopped a speeding vehicle at 8:20 p.m. in the 8200 block of I-90. The driver, a 37-year-old Seattle man, did not have insurance, a license or ID. He was arrested and cited, and his vehicle was impounded.

Deer struck: A deer was hit and killed at 9:20 p.m. in the 8000 block of West Mercer Way by a vehicle whose driver, 18, did not have time to react as the deer crossed the road from out of the woods, according to the police report.

May 19

Accident: A 44-year-old bicyclist collided with a vehicle at 3:05 p.m. after veering off a bike path and onto North Mercer Way in the 9100 block. The vehicle’s windshield shattered, the passenger mirror was broken off, the front fender was dented in by 12 inches on the right side, the hood was dented and scratched, and a front headlight was damaged. The bicycle’s frame cracked and its front forks broke off. The bicyclist was taken to Overlake Hospital with possible back injuries, and the driver was not injured.

Keys found: A Mercer Island woman found a ring of keys on the road by her residence in the 4200 block of Shoreclub Drive. She suspected that the keys might have been dropped by a jogger.

May 20

DUI: Police arrested a Seattle man, 31, for DUI at 1:24 a.m. in the 7800 block of S.E. 28th Street after stopping him for expired tabs. He admitted to consuming alcohol, and failed standard field sobriety tests. He was also carrying a small amount of marijuana. His vehicle was impounded and he was released to a sober adult.

Fender-bender: A vehicle rear-ended a Jeep at 9:45 a.m. in the 3600 block of Gallagher Hill Road. The driver, 17, was cited with following too closely, and his vehicle was towed.

Accident: A vehicle with three teen occupants missed a turn at 30 mph, braked and skidded over a curb, then hit a bollard, sign and tree after crossing a foot path at 11:50 p.m. in the 3600 block of East Mercer Way. The vehicle was towed, and no injuries were reported.

May 21

Arrest: Police stopped a vehicle with equipment violations and arrested the driver, a 40-year-old Auburn man, on a King County Sheriff’s Office outstanding $1,000 warrant at 2:36 a.m. in the 9600 block of eastbound I-90. The suspect was booked into the King County Jail.

Bike found: An employee of the Mercer Island Thrift Shop turned a bike in at the police department after finding it behind the dumpsters at the old recycling center site.

May 22

DUI: Police stopped a vehicle whose driver, a 29-year-old man, was talking on his cell phone while driving in the 8000 block of S.E. 27th Street. The man’s speech was slurred, and he admitted to drinking. He was arrested at 6:30 p.m. after failing standard field sobriety tests, and his vehicle was impounded.
