Island’s Phelps wins state sewing competition

Mercer Island’s Martha Phelps won the adult division at the state Make It With Wool competition held Oct. 22 on the Central Washington University campus in Ellensburg.

Phelps was victorious with her two-piece stylish suit made of an olive and bone wool blend, according to a press release. She was drawn to the lined jacket by the pieced and topstitching elements and front exposed zipper it included. The skirt fashioned curved seams in the front and back, and topstitching that echo the lines and details of the jacket.

She will be representing Washington by sending her entry into the national competition in December.

The Washington Make It With Wool Contest is sponsored by the Washington Wool Growers Auxiliary and the Washington State Sheep Producers. The national contest is sponsored by the American Sheep Industry and the American Sheep Industry Women.
