Mercer Island Printing was burglarized after a landscaping rock was used to break a rear office window on Wednesday night, Jan. 23.

An employee discovered the burglary when she opened the shop, located at 2448 76th Ave. S.E., the next morning, finding loose change on the floor and a light on. Someone had rummaged through the cash register, and stole $41 in cash. The register had not been locked, according to the police report.

Another employee who had closed the business the previous evening told police that he had locked the shop around 6 p.m.

The shop’s alarm system was not operating at the time.

Open drawers and papers on the floor indicated that several rooms in the business were searched. The 2-by-2-foot window broken for entry will cost an estimated $200 to replace. Three laptops, worth $2,041 altogether, were stolen from the room of entry. The laptops were the property of Makena Partners, which rents a room in the print shop.
