Girls soccer prepares for crucial final stretch; MI volleyball sweeps Interlake; Bothell hammers MI football.

Girls soccer beats Sammamish

Scoring four goals in the opening half of play, Mercer Island girls soccer ran away early to beat Sammamish 6-2 Thursday night at Islander Stadium.

Kate Miller scored two first-half goals for the Islanders, who saw five different players find the back of the net against the Totems.

Mercer Island (12-2, 8-2 in KingCo) finishes its season with a crucial two-game home stretch against Liberty and Bellevue. The Islanders are currently tied for first place in the league with Bellevue, who they will host next Thursday. They lead lead the Patriots by a half-game in the KingCo standings, and will next take on Liberty at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27 at MIHS.

MI volleyball sweeps Interlake

Mercer Island volleyball improved to 10-1 in league play, sweeping Interlake 29-27, 25-22, 25-15 Thursday night at Interlake High School.

Jemma Yeadon posted 14 kills, 14 digs, four aces and two blocks. Adara Hamilton had six kills, three aces and four digs, Tess Hendelman recorded 12 digs and two aces, and Eden Singh had 25 assists, three digs, an ace and a block for the Islanders.

The Islanders (13-2, 10-1) close out their regular season hosting Juanita at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27 at MIHS.

Bothell hammers MI football

Mercer Island football fell to 2-6 on the season, losing their nonconference matchup to Bothell 41-14 Thursday night at Pop Keeney Stadium in Bothell.

The Cougars pulled away with three touchdowns in the second quarter to improve to 4-4 this year.

Mercer Island is scheduled to take on Sammamish Friday, Oct. 30 at Sammamish High School, though chances of the contest actually happening are in the balance. Sammamish has canceled its last three games due to injuries and illness.
