March 24

Robbery: Following an armed robbery in Bellevue, Mercer Island officers helped locate and detain the suspect who fled in their vehicle westbound across Interstate 90 and was quickly spotted arriving across the bridge into Seattle.

Theft: A resident in the 4600 block of 84th Avenue Southeast reported that she captured video footage of a subject attempting to open her mailbox.

March 22

Fraud: A resident in the 9200 block of Southeast 59th Street discovered that a former downstairs tenant has been fraudulently using the victim’s credit card information to make unauthorized purchases.

March 20

Fraud: A resident in the 8700 block of Southeast 50th Street discovered that someone called their bank and tried to open accounts in the victim’s name.

Assault: Officers arrested an adult subject for allegedly punching a juvenile in the face in the 7600 block of Southeast 27th Street.

March 18

Theft: A representative from the post office, located in the 3000 block of 78th Avenue Southeast, reported that someone stole several trays of mail from the processing area.

Phone scam alert: The Mercer Island Police Department has recently received several reports of scammers calling Island residents claiming to be Mercer Island police officers — often using real officers’ names — and demanding payment for various things. The department said that officers will never call residents and demand payment for any reason.
