Subject swipes golf simulator, business cards and flask | Mercer Island police blotter

March 4

Vehicle prowl: A resident in the 3200 block of 74th Avenue Southeast reported that someone broke into his vehicle. Also, someone swiped a golf simulator that belongs to the company he works for along with some business cards and a flask.

March 6

Fraud: In the 3000 block of 78th Avenue Southeast, a resident informed police that she mailed a check to one recipient but it was cashed by another person.

March 7

Found property: After purchasing a vehicle, a resident in the 3200 block of 78th Avenue Southeast called police to turn in an identification card and possible drugs located inside.

March 8

Unwanted shotgun shells: A resident in the 9600 block of Southeast 36th Street turned in unused and unwanted shotgun shells to police.

March 9

Vehicle prowl: Someone broke into a vehicle and stole an iPad in the 7200 block of North Mercer Way.

March 10

Theft: A resident in the 3300 block of 81st Place Southeast reported that someone possibly stole an item from her kitchen.

* The Mercer Island Police Department (MIPD) issued a scam alert on March 4 that reads:

“A familiar scam is making its rounds, you know the one where someone claiming to be a Sergeant or Commander with Mercer Island Police Department is saying they need you to make a payment for something, like clearing a warrant for your arrest? This is a scam. MIPD will never ask you for money or gift cards. If you receive this call, hang up the phone immediately and dial our 24/7 non-emergency dispatch line at 425-577-5656 to speak to a real police officer.”
