A suspect who burglarized a home between 1 and 1:30 p.m., July 2, in the 8400 block of S.E. 33rd Place has been identified and arrested.

A suspect who burglarized a home between 1 and 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 2, in the 8400 block of S.E. 33rd Place has been identified and arrested. A neighbor saw the 18-year-old suspect, a Mercer Island resident, enter the backyard of the residence and leave a half hour later, carrying two shopping bags. Stolen items included bottles of rum, a Nikon camera, Mac Mini and two watches. The loss was $10,000. Police arrested the suspect more than seven hours later, just before 9 p.m., in the 2800 block of 77th Avenue S.E. A backpack was taken into evidence.

June 24

Hit-and-run: A legally parked, unoccupied Honda Civic was struck and damaged in the 7800 block of S.E. 32nd Street at approximately 10 p.m. The 20-year-old victim reported the accident away from the scene and did not know who hit his vehicle, as the other driver left the scene.

June 26

Hit-and-run: A woman reported that her vehicle, a Lexus, was struck by another vehicle backing out of a parking stall in the south QFC lot at 2:30 p.m. She reported the accident six days after its occurrence and said “she did not know she had been hit because her music was loud.” A police officer verified that the Lexus was damaged on the passenger side.

June 27

Accident: A Toyota Camry rear-ended a vehicle that was stopped behind a car waiting to turn left at 6:50 p.m. in the 6200 block of Island Crest Way. A police officer cited the 18-year-old driver of the Camry for following too closely. One witness was present.

Theft: Someone stole a 17-year-old boy’s Specialized Sirrus bicycle worth $800 to $1,000 from Mercerdale Park between 8 and 8:35 p.m.

June 29

Burglary: Electronics and jewelry were stolen from a house in the 8500 block of S.E. 78th Street sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 10 p.m., while the residents were away. Someone entered the residence through an unsecured side door that led into the garage. Stolen items included earrings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, chains, an iPhone, bags, two-way radios, a digital camcorder, laptop computer, and tie tacks. Two boxes handled by the suspect were taken into evidence for prints.

June 30

Thefts: A 38-year-old Shoreline man reported that most of the items in his basement storage closet were stolen sometime during the past two years. He had not been in the closet since 2010 and recently checked it while moving from his Shorewood apartment in the 9000 block of East Shorewood Drive. Stolen items included an open-end wrench set, patio umbrella and stand, jack stands, a gorilla ladder, tool box, wheel ramp, two-ton floor jack and socket set.

A Bobcat tractor worth $6,000 was stolen from the intersection of S.E. 53rd Place and East Mercer Way sometime overnight. The keys had been left inside for a friend to pick up the tractor.

Bike accident: A 43-year-old Seattle bicyclist was injured in a fall after swerving to avoid being hit at 1:40 p.m. in the 5300 block of East Mercer Way. A truck had attempted to pass him on a curve but could not because of oncoming traffic, but the truck did not strike the bicyclist, who went down on his own. The bicyclist sustained abrasions on his arm and leg.

Malicious mischief: A firework was used to blow up a large barn-house mailbox at 8 p.m. in the 9700 block of S.E. 41st Street. The damage was $150.

Lost keys: A 25-year-old woman who opened the Thai restaurant in the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street reported that her keys went missing between 10:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. She had left the keys behind the counter, and her efforts to locate them were unsuccessful.

July 1

Arrest: Police arrested a 31-year-old Federal Way man at 11:38 a.m. and booked him into the SCORE facility.

July 2

Arrest: Police stopped a Ford pickup in the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street for a report of sale violation. The driver, 45, who was also driving with a suspended license, was arrested at 5:31 a.m. and taken into Bothell police custody.

Car prowl: A Bellevue resident called a 49-year-old Mercer Island woman after finding her purse behind a dumpster. The purse had been stolen during a car prowl sometime after 5 p.m. on June 28 in the 9600 block of S.E. 34th Street. When the woman retrieved her purse, she found a neighbor’s belongings inside.

Accident: A BMW sedan pulled out in front of an oncoming SUV at 7:21 p.m. in the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street. The 16-year-old driver of the sedan said that she did not see the SUV before the collision. She was cited for failing to yield the right of way. No injuries were reported. The street was blocked by the accident.
