The following headlines related to opportunities for community engagement are from the Oct. 21 Mercer Island City Council meeting.
Opportunities to Attend Community Special Events/Openings:
* Town Center trick-or-treating event from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Oct. 31, which provides an opportunity to “join and stop by” many participating downtown businesses.
Opportunities to Learn More/Provide Feedback:
* Give feedback on the Clark and Groveland beach parks three new design concepts that can be reviewed on the city’s website at https://letstalk.mercergov.org/ , and then participate in an online community survey regarding preferences and priorities for both park features, including an opportunity for parents to include feedback from children. Survey open until Nov. 3.
* Next city council meeting is at 5 p.m. on Nov. 4: Options for joining the meeting include in person at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center, a Zoom link on the city’s website, and MI-TV (Channel 21). Citizen appearances: An opportunity to speak to the city council on items of interest. Speakers must register by 4 p.m. on the day of the council meeting at cityclerk@mercerisland.gov and are given three minutes to speak.
* Councilmember Ted Weinberg will hold his next monthly gathering on Nov. 16 with a noon lunch at Allister restaurant on Mercer Island (7650 SE 27th St. Suite 100), providing an opportunity to discuss a variety of topics of interest for Mercer Island residents. Other Important Citizen Notices:
* Mercer Island Thrift Store improvements are complete and it is now reopened.
* Mercer Island Community and Event Center gym flooring will be repaired due to ground water causing damage.
* Town Center Commuter Parking Lot, with 35 stalls and bike lockers, is now open to the public, with landscaping and lighting expected to be completed in November.
* First Hill Park playground replacement and repair projects are anticipated to be completed by early 2026.
