Kasey Taylor Thompson and Kendall Taylor will discuss “Supporting Islander Mental Health from the Teen Years Through Young Adulthood” at the Rotary Club of Mercer Island’s meeting on Dec. 2 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center, 8236 SE 24th St.
The main meeting begins at 12:30 p.m.; socializing is from noon to 12:30 p.m. Guests are always welcome and there is no fee to attend. A catered lunch is available for $25, or attendees can bring their own meal.
Kasey is a board member and president of The Scooty Fund, and her mother Kendall is a board member of the fund. They will describe The Scooty Fund and its efforts to support the mental well-being of teens and young adults. They will also provide strategies and resources for sustaining mental wellness — your own and that of the teens and young adults in your life.
Kasey, Mercer Island High School class of 2011, is a licensed marriage and family therapist associate. She chose to pursue an occupation in the mental health field after losing her brother to suicide in 2017. The loss of her brother also prompted Kasey to launch The Scooty Fund, a nonprofit organization. Kasey lives and works in the Seattle area.
Kendall spent her teen years on Mercer Island in the late 1970s. As an adult, she and her husband decided to return to Mercer Island to raise their three children. Over the decades, Kendall has been a practicing attorney, a community volunteer and an employee of the Mercer Island School District. She is currently a ski instructor in Sun Valley, Idaho, where she resides with her husband.
