For the second straight year, the Mercer Island boys swim team won the SeaKing district title, finishing ahead of second-place Lakeside.
The Islanders won with a 290.5 score, while Lakeside finished with a 258.5 overall.
The Mercer Island boys won the KingCo tournament title Thursday evening, beating the regular season league champs Bellevue 53-48. The win earns the team a No. 1 seed going into the SeaKing district tournament, which begins Saturday, and another step closer to the state tournament.
The Mercer Island girls fell to Mount Si 61-49 in the KingCo semifinal playoffs on Tuesday afternoon. The Islanders will now play for third or fourth place on Thursday, Feb. 10, but have still earned a spot at the SeaKing district tournament.

The Mercer Island Youth Soccer Club’s U12 team, nicknamed Mercer Island Force, earned a second-place finish in the Washington State Founders Cup. The team lost to Crossfire in the championship match by penalty kicks.
Members of the Islander Middle School wrestling team finished off their season with a win at the varsity Foothills league championship finals in the middle of January.
For the ninth straight year, the Mercer Island boys swimming team brought home the KingCo championship. The Islanders won with a score of 840 points, followed by second-place Newport’s 394.
For the third time in four years, the Mercer Island wrestling team earned the 3A KingCo title. The Islanders finished with 231 points, ahead of Mount Si’s second-place 165 points.
The Mercer Island girls basketball team stayed alive in the postseason race after a first round KingCo win over Bellevue.
The Mercer Island High School gymnastic team took second place at the KingCo meet on Saturday evening at Lake Washington High School. The team earned a 149.375 score, behind Mount Si’s winning score of 155.025.

As the regular season wound down last week, the Mercer Island girls gymnastics team looked back and saw some of the highest scores it has posted in several years. The team also knows it is in a strong position heading into the postseason to battle for the top spot in the league.
When winter dawns for many Island kids, it means the start of a new sports season: ski racing. For many who are members of local ski teams, the falling snow means it’s time to strap on skis and hit the mountain. Several Mercer Island middle school and elementary school students are finding their passion on the ski hill.
